Named for its benefactor, William Rand Kenan, Jr., the 25-acre Kenan Center campus is a historic treasure that serves as a regional community center providing arts, education and recreation programs to the community and greater Western New York region.
Facilities include a sports arena, converted carriage-house theater and community gathering room, education building, outdoor recreational fields, playground, and the Kenan house, an 1800's Victorian mansion surrounded by formal gardens, that contains a year-round art gallery and Gift Shop. Programs include a nursery school, recreational offerings, gallery exhibitions, Family Performance Series, on-school-time visual and performing arts, lifelong learning classes, and special events such as the annual 100 American Craftsmen show, a prestigious showcase of contemporary craft art, the Holiday Gift Show which takes place the week before Thanksgiving, and the biennial Quilters' Guild Quilt Show. The Kenan Center's affiliate groups--the Kenan Arts Council, Kenan Quilters' Guild and Friends of the Kenan Herb Club, also provide numerous public events and programs throughout the year.
